WE ARE NO LONGER BREEDING FLAT-COATED RETRIEVERS.
If you are interested in an Acadia puppy:
1. Contact us and we will add you to our puppy list.
2. When we know we are having a litter we will get in touch with everyone on the list & ask if you are still interested in a puppy. We understand if you have already found a puppy from another breeder.
3. Four weeks after the breeding we will have an ultrasound done to confirm the pregnancy and get an idea of how many puppies to expect. Puppy applications will then be sent out to the first people on the list that corresponds with the number of puppies plus a few more. The information you submit gives us an idea of your lifestyle, expectations, interests, etc. to help us match the best puppy to you.
4. Then we wait. We'll let you know when the litter is born; 7-10 days later we will send out a contract to be returned with a deposit of half the cost of the puppy. This deposit is refundable if you change your mind before the puppies are 6 weeks old & we have a waiting list. The balance will be due when you pick up your new family member.
5. We start welcoming visitors when the puppies are 3 weeks old as long as everyone is healthy. We encourage these visits so we can get to know our puppy families & it also helps to socialize the puppies. They will be exposed to children thanks to our granddaughters!
6. When the pups are 7 weeks old we will have an evaluator conduct the Vollard Puppy Aptitude Test on each puppy. The results along with 7 weeks of observation will help us decide who gets which puppy. We will also evaluate puppies to decide which ones will go to performance, show and field homes.
7. The pups will also visit our vet at 7 weeks for their first check up, shot and microchip so they are ready to travel.
8. At 8-9 weeks they are ready to go to their new homes & we will set up times for each family. We like to spend about an hour with each one to go over some information, fill out paperwork & get to know you if we haven't met you before. If you cannot come to Penn Yan, NY please read our Puppy Travel Policy below. We will do all we can to get you and your new family member together.
