Phoenix - Shasta's Rising From the Ashes CGC
When we decided to breed Gems we thought we would look for a liver boy since she carries the liver gene thanks to her dad, Suede. We found a lovely boy, Phoenix, in New Jersey. We were also looking for a new line to integrate into ours. Phoenix was whelped in California from a line known for its longevity and dogs that excel in conformation and companion events. Gems was a great mom, very attentive right up until the pups went to their new homes.

Picture
The Girls - 2 days old. They were not as cooperative as their brothers! We'll try to get a better shot soon.
Picture
Kilroy was here! No, actually our granddaughters were the first visitors. They couldn't wait to see them even though they weren't able to play with the pups. Jasmine told me she'll like it better in a few weeks.
Picture
Like all Flat-Coats Purple Girl is already sleeping upside down.
Picture
Five little puppies sleeping side by side like little logs.

At 3 weeks the puppies are playing together.

The pups sleep in some really strange positions.

Kissy Face!
Picture
Aunt Emma is still such a good mom. She likes to get in the whelping box and visit the puppies. The amazing thing is that Gems doesn't have a problem with this.

Our granddaughters Abby & Jasmine brought their friend Ally to see how much the pups had grown.

Picture
The weekend that the pups were 5 weeks old we had lots of visitors. Kona (Red Boy) made some friends in the sandbox.
Picture
The Gemstone kids at 5 1/2 weeks.
Picture
The puppies like to peek out of the whelping box to see what is going on & to find Gems. A couple have climbed out to explore on their own. When they do we raise the board up one more position. Only one more to go!

Blue Boy - Day 2
Picture
Since some of the pups will be used in the field we introduce them to a pheasant wing at 5 weeks and give it to them for a little while every day under supervision. They will learn that it is not a toy but something that is handled gently.

Green and Purple Girls 5 1/2 weeks
Picture
Lavender Girl found Uncle Jet's basketball while the pups had some play time in the family room.
Picture
Blue Boy - Day 9
Picture
Blue Boy at 3 weeks old.
Picture
Scout (Blue Boy) at 7 weeks old. He is a very nice boy but a little loud. He makes sure we know when he needs something.
Picture
Scout is doing well. He is getting along fine with Chloe, enjoying the lake and the boat and doing well with his training. He's a very tired puppy after running around on Swinnerton's large property.
Picture
August 2017: Flat- Coats are natural therapy dogs. After Mark had foot surgery this month Scout never left his side. Scout is doing well. We had a swim date last month & the 4 dogs had a blast chasing bumpers, tennis balls & each other.
Picture
June 2019: Scout loves to go out on the boat on Seneca Lake. Mark says Scout is the best dog ever!
Picture
Yellow Girl - Day 2
Picture
Blue Boy 5 weeks old.
Picture
Scout (Acadia Alexandrite) went home to Watkins Glen, NY with the Swinnerton family. He has a big sister, Chloe, who is also a flat-coat. He'll have lots of fun swimming and boating on Seneca Lake. They live just a half hour away and Mark & John are planning to get together for field training.
Picture
September, 2016: Scout is enjoying his life on Seneca Lake. We get together when we can for play dates with Mocha and Scout. Unfortunately the Swinnertons lost his big sister, Chloe, this past spring but Scout seems to be adjusting to being an only dog.
Picture
June, 2018: Scout has a new baby sister, Mabel, who is now 6 months old and learning about all the fun she can have on Seneca Lake. Scout is a good big brother and enjoys having a sister again.
Picture
Yellow Girl - Day 9 Even though it doesn't look like it she has moved in the last week!
Picture
Yellow Girl at 3 weeks.
Picture
Mocha (Yellow Girl) at 7 weeks. She will be staying with us to continue her Grandma Tara's legacy. We are hoping she does well in the show and obedience rings and John would like to field train her.
Picture
The first time she was at the lake Mocha followed Jet & Emma into the water and started swimming. She is also great on the boat - she usually falls asleep shortly after we start the motor.
Picture
June, 2015 - Mocha has grown into a very lovely girl. We began showing her this spring and as of the end of June she has done very well, taking WB at several shows and BOS at 2 shows. Mocha reminds us so much of her grandmother Tara. She "talks", rests her chin on the bed when she thinks it's time for the humans to get up in the morning and is becoming the alpha dog. This spring she also earned both her CGC and Advanced CGC in only 2 8 week obedience sessions.
Picture
November 5, 2016: Mocha made us very proud today, earning her first major in a very competitive group. August 2017: Mocha has continued to do well in the show ring. She now has 10 points out of 15 towards her championship. She has grown into a very pretty girl - one long time FCR breeder told me she is the nicest liver bitch that she has ever seen.
Picture
June 2019: Mocha continues to recover from her ruptured disc - we still have to be careful to be sure she won't reinjure her back. We're still hoping that she can have a litter and that we will be able to take her to Westminster in 2020.
Picture
Red Boy - Day 2
Picture
Yellow Girl 5 weeks old. She is finally in a different position.
Picture
Mocha (Acadia's Chocolate Diamond) at 11 weeks. She is growing before our eyes and doing will with her training. She loves playing with Emma & Jet although we do have to watch them as Jet does get a little rough sometimes. Our granddaughter Jasmine adores her and Mocha feels the same way about Jasmime.
Picture
Abby, Mocha & Jasmine; December 2014
Picture
September 2016: Mocha has had a busy year. We pulled her from showing last fall because she was going through a growth spurt which was not pretty! She returned to the show ring this past spring and has had some good placements. Mocha also earned her first CD leg this month. She also made a trip to Maine last December.
Picture
July, 2018: Mocha has had a very busy and successful year on the show circuit. On September 30, 2017 she earned a 4 point major at the Wine Country shows against some very tough competition in quality & numbers. Then on October 12th she earned her last point in Hamburg and became a champion! Two days later she earned her first 2 Grand Champion points by going Select Bitch. After a few months off she had a great weekend at the shows in Henrietta, NY. On June 22nd she earned her first GCh major of 4 points by going Select again The next day she earned her CD obedience title. On Sunday she again went Select for a 3 point major!
Picture
June, 2020: After several set backs Mocha finally became a mom on March 18th when she gave birth to 8 beautiful, healthy puppies. Always the independent one she gave no signs of being in labor when we went to bed the night before. At 2:00 AM Jet woke us up with a bark & when John checked on him he heard little puppy squeaks coming from Mocha's crate. She had already had 3 pups and by the time we got dressed & did the last minute preparations she had 1 more. After we moved them to the whelping box 3 more were born. She was a wonderful mother. Now she is looking forward to retirement & maybe a trip to Westminster in 2021.
Picture
Red Boy and Purple Girl 8 days old. Just before I took this they were kissing. While I was getting the camera Gems decided to give them a lick which changed the picture.
Picture
Red Boy at 3 weeks old. He was the first to play with a toy.
Picture
Kona (Red Boy) at 7 weeks old. Kona is going to be a handful for his new family - he is a very active boy! They have 2 children that will give him plenty of playtime and exercise.
Picture
Red Boy 5 weeks old.
Picture
Kona (Acadia's Black Pearl) is another puppy that stayed close by. The Belbase family took him home to Ithaca, NY. He is doing well and enjoying his new family and they him.
Picture
When he was 11 weeks old Kona visited one of the nicest spots in the NY southern tier - Cornell Plantation. He is doing very well with his training especially on the invisible fence.
Picture
June, 2016 - Kona loves to play with his frisbee and lay in the sun. Every day he looks forward to the kids coming home from school so they can play together.
Picture
June 2019: Kona is doing well. He loves to swim and chasing his frisbee. He seems to enjoy being the only fur baby in the house.
Picture
Lavender Girl - Day 2
Picture
Lavender Girl at 3 weeks old. The lamb is a favorite toy of everyone.
Picture
Ruby (Lavender Girl) at 7 weeks old. Ruby is a little sweetheart. She waits patiently for her meals and to be picked up. She is going to make a great pet for her new family.
Picture
June, 2015 - Kona has had a busy year. He loves walking with the kids back and forth to school every day and he enjoys all the attention he gets when he arrives. Kona has been taking obedience classes and is working towards his CGC. He has also tried lure coarsing but was more interested in everything around him than the lure!
Picture
August 2017: Kona has spent the summer learning to paddleboard in an inlet off of Cayuga Lake. It's hard to keep him on the board since he is constantly jumping off to retrieve every stick he sees. He has also discovered how to make mud puddles and then wallowing in them - his favorite past time!
Picture
June, 2020: Kona has a new little brother who is also his nephew! When they learned that we were having our last litter the Belbase's decided to welcome one of Mocha's pups into their home. Little Maui and Kona have become friends and are doing well.

Picture
Ruby (Acadia's Ruby Slippers) is now living with the Alm family in Cortland, NY which is only a little more than an hour away from us. There were a few bumps the first week but she is now doing well and adjusting to her new home.
Picture
Ruby is doing very well. She has a new big brother, a golden retriever who is 2 weeks older than she is. The Alms thought that Ruby needed a companion to help her adjust to her new family. They have become the best of friends and Ruby is much happier.
Picture
Purple Girl - Day 2
Picture
June, 2015 - Shannon tells us that Ruby is doing well & is very smart! Like Mocha she is very vocal and is very attached to her.

Picture
Sophie (Purple Girl) at 7 weeks old. Sophie is another little sweetheart. She is very affectionate but at the same time can be a little mischievous. We have to watch her or she'll climb out of the outdoor pen. Luckily the patio area is all walls or fence.
Picture
At 12 weeks Sophie is doing very well. She has learned to swim and loves the water. Sophie is getting well socialized with both other dogs and kids.
Picture
Sophie all dressed up for Easter!
Picture
June 2019: Sophie and her human sister Emma are both 5 this year. They are best buddies and growing up together. Sophie still loves the water and entertains the neighbors chasing tennis balls in Long Island Sound.

Green Girl - Day 2
Picture
Green Girl at 3 weeks old.
Picture
Moti (Green Girl) at 7 weeks old. Moti is a little character; very active and inquisitive. She will be going to live with a couple who owned her Great Uncle Vishnu, Grandma Tara's brother.
Picture
Moti is having fun with all of her furry siblings. She has started puppy class and is a quick learner.
Picture
Purple Girl at 5 weeks old.
Picture
Gabe and Kerry Masaracchia took Sophie (Acadia's Pearl of Phoenix) home to Lake Grove, LI, NY. She has a new big brother, Ozzy, a chocolate lab. They also have a home in the Catskills of NY so she will be doing lots of hiking!
Picture
Sophie having fun in the snow, Feb. 2015.
Picture
June, 2016 - Kerry tells us that Sophie is always moving, chasing and retrieving and always wants to play. She loves to run on the beach and swim in the ocean at Montauk. Sophie is a typical Flat-Coat - she sleeps on upside down with her legs in the air.
Picture
June, 2020: Sophie is still in love with tennis balls and Long Island Sound. She loves the water and Kerry thinks one of these days Sophie will follow a tennis ball all the way to Connecticut. Sophie & Emma have lots of fun together - Emma will be 6 this year, too.
Picture
Green Girl (Day 7) cuddling up with Mama Gems.
Picture
Green Girl 5 weeks old. The pups like to sleep between the crate and the X-pen.
Picture
Moti (Acadia's Pearl of the Orient) went to a very special home. She is living in Pittsburgh, PA with Lisa Parker & David Sogg. They were formerly owned by Tara's brother Vishnu who like Tara passed away last year due to cancer. Moti now has 3 canine sisters including Jala (above) along with a cat.
Picture
June 2015 - Moti is doing very well. Dave reports that she is very strong willed but they are working on training and are confident that she will grow out of this stage and become a great dog. Moti's favorite activity is shredding cereal boxes!
Picture
July, 2018: Moti was having difficulty getting along with her smaller siblings and after lots of discussion between Lisa, Dave & us they made the difficult decision to return Moti to us so we could find her a new home where she would be the only dog. W were very lucky to place her with a couple from our Summer litter who had recently lost their dog. She spent an interesting week with us - Mocha is now our alpha but Moti thought she should be which led to some sibling squabbles.
Picture
June 2018: Rich tells us that Moxie is doing great and that she is a very loving dog. We're glad that she adjusted well to her new home.
Picture
August 2018: Moti is now known as Moxi (which she has LOTS of!) and living in sunny Florida with Rich Harmon and his partner John. She has settled in well & was a great traveler from NY to FL.

Picture
June, 2020: Moxie continues enjoying being an only dog and all the attention that comes with it. Rich and John built her a new house this year which includes cement pools where Moxie enjoys cooling off after her walks.
